About the Practitioner
It’s a long and fun story and I will touch on the highlights that feel important to share as you decide whether or not to work together. If you are curious, feel free to use the forum to ask more questions. You are allowed to ask any question you desire. It’s always my choice to answer.
On 1/1/2006, I left the corporate world of finance and hustle and went to work as a personal trainer at a local 24 Hour Fitness. I was still married at the time, the kids were young and I am forever grateful we were able to make the financial adjustments necessary in order for this to happen. This was the first time I had ever felt aligned with a profession. I didn’t know this feeling existed until I experienced the experience.
I received a massage license from Denver Integrative Massage in September of 2014. Funny thing is, I had no intention of ever practicing bodywork. It was all about building the resume (ego and identity).
In 2016, things started to shift. A local physical therapy clinic reached out looking for a bodyworker. Even though I had a license, I was not practicing any bodywork. I was still focused on movement, strength and nutrition. It had been 10+ years of that type of work. On a deep level, I could feel something shifting within so I accepted the job feeling a lot of uncertainty. Life was never the same after that one decision. I worked there 4 years. The focus of that work was mostly post-surgical bodywork.
Believe it or not, I went on my own in 2020 and am grateful to still be in business and thriving.
Here is a little bit more of the “resume” that has prepared me for the work that is currently being offered through me:
Working under the guidance of a Shaman, Rolfer and Mental Health Coach for 15+ years.
Around 2015/16, reflecting and accepting life experiences that had been buried so deep for decades that I forgot… such as abuse (physical, psychological, emotional and sexual). This included acknowledging the many patterns/habits/addictions that were built over the years attempting to deny the reality of what actually happened to the body, mind and Spirit. Some of the patterns you may recognize if you have gotten this far are: hypervigilance, intense amounts self-loathing, numbing and “escaping or disassociating” with things like alcohol, gambling, working out; stealing, cheating and lying to myself and others; “climbing the corporate ladder” and multiple attempts to end life (CPTSD).
Being the “black sheep” and accepting the grief that follows with this acknowledgement
Going no contact with the family of origin starting with the father; being estranged from family even today as you are reading this
Working with people and pets at the end of their life including sitting with them in a hospice type setting as they "pass on" to the next realm/dimension.
Working with people whose bodies have been diagnosed with some form of cancer/disease. This includes those whose bodies are going through some type of chemo and or radiation treatments. Being there for them physically, emotionally and spiritually. Accepting them as they are in the moment and perhaps giving their bodies gentle Love and attention, including cranial, intraoral (think tongue, gums, palettes, ptyeragoid) and lymphatic work. Lymphatic work is divine 💫
Working with people that wish to make lifestyle changes and have no frame of reference on where to start. Many of these people are learning how to move their bodies again after traumatic surgeries and or accidents to their body including an NDE. This can be an overwhelming process at first, especially figuring out how and where to start. This has included such things as:
reminding them how to move their body again in a safe and slow manner
reminding them how to stay in body for longer periods of time
learning how to shop/navigate a grocery store
learning how to cook simple, “healthy” and practical meals that actually taste good and nourish the body
remembering how to connect with their breath
remembering how to fast properly
remembering how to meditate with no goal including quieting the mind
remember how to prepare for sleep in a healthy way
the importance of digestion (parasympathetic nervous system of relax and digest)
the importance of nervous system regulation (fight, flight, freeze, fawn to calm)
helping them remember it is the trauma that happened in their body and not actually to them
Teaching this type of work to small businesses, small groups such as local neighborhoods/communities, churches, police academy, and in a gym/dojo type setting.
Teaching this type of work with individuals and families. This work is not limited to Colorado or the United States. One fun example, in 2015, working and traveling with a client while teaching "Integrated Wellness". We worked and visited such places as Marrakesh, Paris, Megève, the Sahara and Casablanca. This also included "residing" in close proximity to the client for an agreed duration of time. This allows for more spontaneous teachings and integrations of reality. If this resonates with you or you know of someone that might resonate with this type of offering, feel free to have them inquire directly at info@jonesbodywork.com to discuss a win/win situation.
